Please join us for the 27th School of Public Service H. Woods Bowman Annual Lecture featuring our guest speaker, Maggie Cullerton Hooper, Chief Philanthropy Officer for the City of Chicago.

This year, we are offering the option to attend the lecture either in person or virtually via Zoom.

Maggie Cullerton Hooper's work includes creating the first cohesive, long-term plan for partnerships with the philanthropic, business, and nonprofit sectors on a citywide scale. She is responsible for the design and implementation of Chicago’s strategic engagement - leveraging innovation to maximize collective investments, build capacity, and co-design models grounded in the lived experience of impacted populations.├óÔé¼┬»

She is committed to facilitating ambitious and creative visions, to ensuring that concepts are informed and refined by all stakeholders, and to operationalizing inclusive solutions across partnership coalitions.├óÔé¼┬»├óÔé¼┬»

Ms. Cullerton Hooper first joined the City of Chicago as deputy commissioner for the Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events in 2019, where she led Chicago’s fundraising, corporate partnerships, and grantmaking to the arts and culture landscape. Her previous professional experience includes leadership roles at Illinois Senate Democrats, Planned Parenthood of Illinois, and Feeding America. She has 20 years of experience leading strategic partnerships, philanthropic and community engagement, public policy, and grantmaking in the nonprofit and civic sectors in Chicago and nationally.├óÔé¼┬»├óÔé¼┬»

Ms. Cullerton Hooper is a current Albany Park resident, life-long Chicagoan, single-mother to two children, CPS parent and LSC member, and community organizer. She received her BA from DePaul University and is a current member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs Emerging Leaders Program.

H. Woods Bowman taught at the School of Public Service from 1995 through his 2012 retirement. He served as professor emeritus until his death from a car crash in 2015. Bowman's professional career spanned six decades in politics, finance, economics, the nonprofit industry and, most of all, education and public service. This annual lecture serves to honor his memory and to allow the DePaul community to hear from someone who has made a significant impact on public service. Past keynote speakers have included former Education Secretary Arne Duncan, former Presidential Chief of Staff Bill Daley, former Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, and CCT President/CEO Helene Gayle.

As of April 11, masks are no longer required to be worn indoors on campus. However, DePaul will remain a mask-friendly campus out of concern for fellow students and colleagues, and in the spirit of Take Care DePaul. Wearing a mask is highly recommended for all indoor spaces. DePaul’s COVID-19 protocols are based on the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Chicago Department of Public Health and the university’s medical advisor from AMITA Health. For more information, visit DePaul's COVID-19 Updates and Guidance website.
