Hi all!

How are you?  With Autumn Quarter quickly moving by, I thought it was a good time for a quick update on AFD!  We have several AFD events that are being planned, a Zoom recording of the Global Justice Teach-In event from Friday, September 23rd, and other fun info that is relevant to the Disabled community and those interested in advancing Disability Justice.

Thank you for being here.  As always, feel free to email me (gtrue@depaul.edu) or Chloe Devens (cdevens@depaul.edu) with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Navigating the CSD: Self-Advocacy and Q&A

AFD is planning two events around navigating official disability-related accommodations at DePaul.  One event will be a community conversation with students to discuss personal experiences, challenges, and tips (*Tomorrow*, Thursday (10/6) at 6:30 pm!).  The second will be an event co-sponsored by the Student Government Association, where a representative from the Center for Students with Disabilities would hear student questions and feedback on October 14th at 3 pm.  More details can be found on DeHub in AFD's upcoming events.  There are also direct links to register for these events at the very end of this email.

For more info, email cdevens@depaul.edu.

Recorded Teach-In Event on Queering Models of Care

This event occurred Friday (9/23).  Logan Owens from MOCHA (a student organization for parents and caregivers) and Gwenyth True from AFD presented on these organizations and the importance of community care.  They also provided practical applications of how to create communities of care.

Non-AFD Events, Media and More!

I thought this could be a space where we could share exciting disability-related media, news, and events in the wider DePaul and Chicago communities.  Feel free to pass any suggestions and news along and we can share it with the group!

Free Virtual Event (10/12, 7 pm CT): Women's & Children First bookstore is collaborating with Access Living to host a conversation with Leah Lakshmi-Piepzna Samarasinha, Moya Bailey, and Akemi Nishida regarding Leah's new book, The Future is Disabled: Prophecies, Love Notes, and Mourning Songs.  For more information and to register for this free event, click here!
