When: 1pm-5pm
Throughout fall quarter, students can stop by the Office of Student Involvement to pick up supplies to participate in a remote event, grab DePaul swag, and more on Tuesdays from 1-5pm! Follow us on social media @DPUInvolvement for announcements on what will be distributed.
Items that will be available to be shipped for remote students will have a form for students to request the supplies or swag.
Typically held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the value of free and open access to information. Since its inception in 1982, Banned Books Week has reminded us that while not every book is intended for every reader, each of us has the right to decide for ourselves what to read, listen to or view.
As part of Banned Books Week, the Office of Student Involvement will be hosting a live streamed session titled “Lessons in Leadership from Banned Books” on Wednesday, September 30 at 6pm. In this session, a panel of DePaul students, faculty, and staff will discuss lessons that they have learned from books that may have been deemed controversial or were banned.
Panelists include:
• Savannah Geer – Student member of DePaul Reads
• Catherine (Cat) Garcia-Goetting – Student member of DePaul Reads
• Marie Donovan, Ed.D. – Associate Professor of Teacher Education and Program Director for Early Childhood Education
• Sveta Stoytcheva – Data Literacy Librarian for the DePaul Library
• Courtney James, facilitator – Director of Student Involvement
Hey first-years! Everyone’s gotta eat right? Why not enjoy a meal with your fellow class mates! Every Monday night during fall quarter, come kick off your week with a fun time getting to know your fellow Blue Demons. Meet some student leaders, chat about anything from Tiger King to finals prep, and hopefully leave with a few new friends in the freshman class!
Put together a team of 4 (virtual teams are a great way to stay in touch with your friends in other places), and log your steps while you enhance your physical AND emotional health. Students and Faculty/Staff Divisions available. Intramural Champion T-shirts to the top teams!
SGA’s Civic Engagement & Social Action Series will feature the opportunity for students to learn about how they can engage in important issues that affect the world around them. This series will connect a student interviewer with DePaul students, faculty/staff, alumni, and campus partners. This series will begin the week of September 1 and will occur weekly until the election. Each session will end with a reminder for students to register to vote utilizing TurboVote.
In the series, DePaul SGA President Alyssa Isberto and other members of SGA’s cabinet will interview various individuals to learn about how they became civically engaged. The interviews will be designed to last 15-30 minutes and will be streamed to DePaul’s Student Government Association facebook page.
This week's session features Tracy Siska, Executive Director for the Chicago Justice Project.
What's Good Black DePaul? Come hang out with us and get to know the Black Cultural Center (BCC) staff and let us know what types of programs and events you like to see come out for the BCC this Year!
Professor Joe R. Tafoya (Political Science, Latin American and Latino Studies) will be moderating this panel on the importance of the Latinx vote on this year's presidential election. Our very special guests are political scientist Melissa Michelson (Menlo College) and LULAC Iowa State Director Nick Salazar.
This fall, we know that student organization involvement will look quite different than when we started the last school year. In order to assist our student leaders in ensuring they have the skillsets they need to be successful as they head into their student leadership positions in 2020, DePaul's Office of Student Involvement has partnered with a number of institutions around the country to offer the Virtual Engagement for Student Organizations Series. Sessions will be live streamed to DePaul Student Involvement's Facebook page at facebook.com/dpustudentinvolvement. Recordings will also be available following the events on the DEN at go.depaul.edu/den.
