Therapy Dog Events

Occasionally, student organizations may be interested in hosting events with Therapy Dogs on campus.  Please use this site as a guide for planning events with Therapy Dogs on campus.

Rules & Regulations around Therapy Dog Events

  1. Therapy Dog events must be outdoors.  In Lincoln Park, that can include a myriad of locations, including the Quad, St. Vincent's Circle, Arts & Letters Patio, and more.  On the Loop campus, Therapy Dog events can happen on the DePaul Center 11th Floor Terrace.  In the event of severe weather, the event must be canceled or rescheduled.  You are welcomed to bring tents for your event.  The process for planning a Therapy Dog should start 4-6 weeks prior to your scheduled date and must be fully planned at least two weeks prior to the event date.  Failure to complete the planning process (including contracting, COI requests, safety plans, and layouts) at least two weeks prior to the event date will result in your event being canceled.
  2. The Therapy Dog company will be required to sign an agreement with DePaul and provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI) - even if there is no cost.  You can download the zero-dollar agreement here and the agreement with a fee here.  The COI terms are listed within the agreement.  Please note, some Therapy Dog providers will not sign an agreement and unfortunately, DePaul cannot work with those groups.  In order to protect our students should something happen and the university from liability, it is mandatory to complete an agreement and your event will be canceled if it is not provided.  Please provide these documents to your vendor early in the process to ensure they are willing to sign.
  3. In addition to the standard Student Centers forms, you be required to complete a Safety Plan.  A sample of a past safety plan for a Lincoln Park event can be found here and a Loop event can be found here.
  4. At this time, only Therapy Dog events are allowed.  No other animals are allowed on campus during these events.
